Hurricane Update

First, we want to thank you for your prayers and support of God’s Ministry in La Gonave. You are our partners in this ministry, and we couldn’t do what we do without your help.

We wanted to update you on the situation in La Gonave, Haiti. Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti last Tuesday, bringing strong winds and rain. We praise God that nobody in the village of Belle Vie or the two surrounding villages died. People took refuge in our school building and our church building. We are so grateful that those buildings, funded by your generous donations, were able to serve as a safe haven for the villagers.

haitihomemanThe situation in these three villages is serious, however. The hurricane destroyed at least 17 homes and severely damaged 96 others. Major crops were ruined and many goats, chickens, horses, cattle and donkeys died. The hurricane also damaged the roads, leaving them with large gouges and holes.

The people in the village have been mending the roads in the days since the hurricane. We are distributing the food from the school’s Feed My Starving Children program so that no one has to go hungry. Missionary Laura Dalla has been in the United States on a fundraising and networking trip, but she is heading back to Haiti on Thursday. When she arrives, she will be buying supplies to bring back to the village. She will purchase as much as she can locally to support the Haitian economy.

Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers. Many have lost everything in this storm. Aid organizations will be concentrating on the hardest hit areas in southern Haiti, and our missionaries do not expect much, if any, aid to reach the island of La Gonave.

The people in the village of Belle Vie need shelter, food and clean water. In the weeks and months to come, we will be focusing on hurricane relief, helping to provide for these families and helping them to rebuild. 100% of any donations made to God’s Ministry in La Gonave are used locally and go directly to the community. Please remember to visit the GML Website for the latest information and our facebook page for the latest pictures.

We pray the Lord’s abundant blessings over you and your home and thank you again for your continued support!

God Bless You,
